More About the Credit Counselling Society & Our Standards
As a non-profit organization, we’ve offered consumer credit counselling for well over 25 years. 95% of Canadians who get in touch with us are often helped without being charged a cent. People only choose to pay for our help if they decide to go on our Debt Management Program. This consolidates and reduces monthly payments into a single monthly amount that they can afford to pay for their credit card and other unsecured debt payments. Our Debt Management Program either eliminates all credit card interest rates or drastically reduces it. Although this is a valuable program that gets rid of debt, allows someone to re-establish their credit, protects their privacy, avoids bankruptcy, and gets their finances back in order as fast as possible, it’s just one of a number of ways that we’re able to help people.
We believe that the best way of consolidating debt, and when we’re offering debt help, is to look at options that allow someone to get back on track as quickly as possible while helping them achieve their long-term financial goals. Unfortunately, our approach is at odds with the way some commission driven financial counselors, debt advisors, credit consultants, and credit advisors out there operate, but we believe that when someone is struggling financially, you need to look at all their options and focus on what’s going to help them the most in the long run.
For this reason we don’t pay our staff commission – only a salary. Whether you like our debt consolidation program, or need a referral to find out more about consumer proposal services, you will get the best information for your credit counsellor.
To hold our organization to the highest standards possible we have joined, been audited by, and are accountable to the National Foundation for Credit Counseling and Credit Counselling Canada. We’re also accountable to the Canada Revenue Agency, a volunteer board of directors and are the only organization in our industry to open up our books to an external auditor every year.
If you’d like to speak with one of our professionally trained debt and credit counsellors, take a look at your personal finance situation, and see what options you have to get back on track, call us now at 604-527-8999. We’re here to help you.
