See where your credit score likely stands in about two minutes. No sign-up, no credit check, and nothing you enter is saved.

Wondering where your credit stands? You’re in good company. Every year, millions of people run a quick credit score check before applying for a mortgage, shopping for a car loan, or simply keeping an eye on their financial health. The tricky part is that so many tools ask for your email, your date of birth, or even your SIN before they’ll tell you anything.

This one doesn’t. Answer a few quick questions about your payment history, balances, and accounts, and the credit score calculator below will show you an estimate on the same 300 to 900 range that Equifax and TransUnion use. It’s a credit score estimator Canada can actually feel good about: free of charge, private, and honest about what an estimate can and can’t tell you.

How your score breaks down

These are the categories that make up your credit score, and this is potentially how you score in each one.

This tool provides an educational estimate only, using the Canadian credit score scale of 300 to 900. Equifax and TransUnion calculate real scores using proprietary models, and different scoring models can produce different numbers for the same person. Your actual score may differ from this estimate. This tool is not a substitute for checking your real credit report.

How this credit score calculator works

Credit scores in Canada are built from five ingredients, and each one carries a different weight. Your payment history matters most at about 35% of your score, followed by how much of your available credit you’re using at 30%. The length of your credit history counts for about 15%, while new credit applications and your mix of credit types each contribute around 10%.

This credit score calculator uses those same five factors and the same weightings. We tested it against dozens of scenarios to make sure the estimates behave the way real scores do, then converted everything to the 300 to 900 scale used across Canada. You’ll also see a breakdown showing how you appear to score in each category, so you know exactly where to focus your energy.

What is a good credit score in Canada?

Credit scores range from 300 to 900 in Canada, and lenders generally group that credit score range into five bands:

  • 760 to 900 Excellent. You’ll typically qualify for the best rates available.
  • 725 to 759 Very good. Most lenders will welcome your application.
  • 660 to 724 Good. You’ll qualify with most lenders, though not always at the lowest rates.
  • 560 to 659 Fair. Borrowing is possible but often more expensive.
  • 300 to 559 Poor. Rebuilding is the priority, and it’s more doable than most people think.

If you’re working toward a good credit score, Canada’s lenders generally start smiling at 660 and up. And if your number is lower than you hoped, please don’t be discouraged. Scores move. With steady payments and a little strategy, most people can see meaningful improvement within six to twelve months.

Try it as a credit score simulator

Here’s our favourite way to use this tool: don’t just estimate where you are today. Use it as a credit score simulator and test your what-ifs, safely and privately. What happens if you pay your credit card balance down by a thousand dollars? What if you stop applying for new credit for a year? What does that old missed payment stop costing you once it’s two years behind you?

Change one answer at a time and watch how your estimate responds. That’s the real power of a credit score simulator: you can rehearse a financial decision before you make it, with zero risk to your actual credit. People find this page searching for everything from credit score calculator Canada to credit score simulator Canada to credit score Canada calculator, and they all lead to the same friendly tool. However you got here, welcome.

Why your number here may differ from other apps

If you’ve checked your credit score online through a free app like Borrowell or Credit Karma, you may notice their number doesn’t match ours, and neither may match the score your bank sees. That’s normal. Different companies use different scoring models, and each model weighs the details a little differently. Our tool is calibrated to FICO-style scoring, which is similar to what many Canadian lenders use, while most free apps use a different Equifax model.

Seeing different numbers from different sources doesn’t mean any of them are wrong. Treat every score, including this one, as a helpful snapshot rather than a verdict.

Five friendly ways to improve your credit score

  • Pay on time, every time. Payment history is the biggest slice of your score. Even one missed payment can sting, so automate at least your minimum payments.
  • Keep balances under 30% of your limits. Credit utilization is the second biggest factor, and it’s the one you can move fastest. Paying down revolving balances often shows results within a month or two.
  • Let your accounts age. Your credit history in Canada rewards patience. Keep your oldest credit card open, even if you rarely use it.
  • Apply for new credit sparingly. Each application can trigger a hard inquiry. Space them out, and your score will thank you.
  • Review your credit report in Canada for free. Equifax and TransUnion are both required to give you free access to your credit report, and errors are more common than you’d expect. Requesting your own report is a soft inquiry, so a credit check in Canada that you run on yourself never hurts your score.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this credit score calculator really free?

Completely. You can estimate your credit score free of charge, as many times as you like. We’re a non-profit, so there’s no premium version, no upsell, and no lead form hiding behind the results.

Will using this credit score estimator affect my credit?

No. The tool never contacts a credit bureau, so there’s no credit check of any kind. Nothing you enter is saved or sent anywhere. It all stays right in your browser.

How accurate is a credit score estimator?

Think of it as an educated estimate. We calibrated this tool against dozens of test scenarios so it behaves like real scoring models, but Equifax and TransUnion calculate actual scores using proprietary formulas and your full credit file. Your real number may differ, especially if your credit report contains details the questions here don’t cover.

What's the difference between a credit score calculator and a credit score simulator?

Same engine, two uses. As a calculator, you enter your real situation and get an estimate of where you stand today. As a simulator, you change one answer at a time to preview how a decision, like paying down a balance, might affect your score before you actually do it.

Where can I see my real credit score in Canada for free?

Both Equifax and TransUnion let you access your credit report and score for free, and many Canadian banks now show your score right in their app. Checking your own file is always a soft inquiry, so look as often as you like.
